Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Episode 1.2) - During the month of August, the entire city of Edinburgh, Scotland is completely transformed in order to accommodate over a dozen different world class festivals-- the largest and most notable being the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. After World War II, Edinburgh wanted to set the stage for peace and unity in Europe with the establishment of the Edinburgh Festival, a showcase of the world’s finest theater and opera. However, eight uninvited theater groups also showed up and gave impromptu performances of their own, leading to what the press declared the “Fringe of the Festival”. The name stuck and today the Fringe remains the largest arts festival in the world, where anyone who is willing and able can perform their act for the public. Host Guad Venegas introduces viewers to the scene and takes in some of the festival’s more eclectic performances. He also checks out the Edinburgh book festival and tries some of Scotland’s finest Scotch Whiskies. After a little overindulgence, Guad tries a local hangover cure and delicacy--Haggis. As Guad begins to feel the spirit of the festival build within him, he grabs whatever he can find for his own impromptu performance on the Royal Mile. Donning a sarape, a sombrero, and a pink ukulele Guad serenades unsuspecting tourists with Mexican love songs in true Fringe fashion.
