Hi, John with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at Ventline's Ventadome manual roof vent that we installed on a utility trailer. So let's take a closer look at the roof vent. Now keep in mind what you're seeing right here. There is no lower trim panel on this one. This is just the vent by itself. If you would like a finished look on the inside we have different size lower trim panels available on our website to finish this off and make it look finished if you want that look on the inside of your trailer or camper. But operation is simple enough. This is requires no electricity. You simply pull down on the spring loaded hinge here and you can adjust it all the way wide open or in between. It adjusts quickly and easily. That's one of the things I like. There's no crank and you're not cranking it up. The bug screen is removable for cleaning. Just gonna pull out on the tabs. It's a little tight, but if you want to keep bugs out, that's not a bad thing. It's nice that it's removable. Now while it's open and I have the screen out, you'll notice it has a vinyl seal all the way around to seal it up when it's closed. This is what it looks like fully opened. And keep in mind for dimensions from the roof up to the top up here, that'll be nine and a half inches above your camper or trailer open. And when it's closed, it's gonna be four inches above the roof of your camper. Now the Ventline comes in two color choices. The white here, which allows light to come through and it also has smoke, which is gonna be just allow a little bit less light to come through. Now these are made in the USA. Also with one thing to note, they're really not meant to be opened while you go down the road. I know we all see people driving with them going down the road and you see 'em kind of flapping, that is going to end up breaking the the hinge on them. They're just not made or designed to be open while you're traveling. But on our website we have several products. One of them is a MaxxAir, the vent cover and it'll actually come up over and that allows you to travel down the road with your vent open or even store it open and not worry about rain or insects and everything else coming into your camper. One nice thing about the Ventline, they already have it pre tabbed for your vent cover installation. Now speaking of installation, if you're replacing a vent, this vent in particular will fit any 14 and a quarter by 14 and a quarter inch square opening that you already have on your camper. Now this trailer here, we installed the vent from scratch. We cut the hole in the roof. Now keep in mind the installation kit is not included but we have that available here on our website that's gonna include butyl tape and the sealant self-leveling sealant here that you see. If you wanna see how we did this, it's not too horribly bad. Stick around and we'll show you. To begin our installation, we're gonna need to cut a hole in the roof of the trailer which is kind of like the big thing here, right So the rough opening that you're gonna need is 14 and a quarter square. So the dimensions on this ridge here are exactly 14 inches. So if you go with a rough opening of 14 and a quarter that'll give you an eighth inch all the way around to set this up. You can cut a template. That's one way to do it. There's gonna be, depending on your trailer and the trailer roof that you have there's a million different ways probably to install this. So what you're gonna be watching today is just one way. You could either do a template and then have a lower trim piece. Today we're gonna be doing just a plywood piece here. And so to start with, I've marked off the 14 and a quarter all the way around and I have holes drilled at the corners and I'm gonna go and drill straight up through the roof in the four corners and that way on top of the roof where we go to cut it I'm gonna know where to cut to. We cut to that line all the way around. (drilling) (drilling) (drilling) Up on the roof of your trailer, this is gonna vary widely. This is a very, very thin roof. So if you're gonna come up and cut on something like this, you definitely wanna make sure, try to keep as much as your weight off of it as you can. A
