Improving Outcomes For Premature Infants At NYU Langone LI - NICU Cuddler Program Helps Newborns
NICU Cuddler programs are currently available at only five hospitals in the New York City area. Staten Islander News spoke with nurses, educators, and volunteer coordinator from NYU Langone’s Long Island branch. Their program was finally started in 2023, after waiting through the pandemic until the restrictions were lifted sufficiently to allow the program to begin. NICU Cuddlers provide healthy touch for newborn infants, including cuddling, rocking, hugging, and holding. Such care can help with gastrointestinal issues, as well as symptoms of neonatal abstinence syndrome.
