4 day trip to Northern Italy with Milan as our base. Day 1 train to Lake Como to visit Bellagio. Stroll around Bellagio lakefront for views of Alps. Ferry from Bellagio to Varenna, walk along the Passerella (shorline walk), the harborfront and to Piazza San Giorgio and return to Milan. Day 2 train from Milan to Verona to visit the the Roman Arena and 'Juliet's balcony'. Next train to Venice for cruise down Grand Canal. Sightseeing in San Marco square and Rialto Bridge. Day 3 Milan sightseeing at the Duomo, Galleria Victor Emmanuel and La Scala. Leave Milan by train to Cinque Terre, is a string of five old fishing villages perched high on the Italian Riviera in the region Liguria, accessible only by rail or water not too long ago. From Monterosso, train to Riomaggiore, is the southernmost village of the Cinque Terre. The town climbs up along the ridges overlooking the sea and it is characterized from the typical stone houses with coloured façades and slate-roofs. Next, train to Manarola, built on a high rock 70 metres above sea level. The tiny harbor features a boat ramp, a tiny piazza and picturesque multicoloured houses facing the sea. Hike up to Punta Bonfiglio Park for sunset view of Manarola Day end with train ride back to Monterosso. Day 4 train to Vernazza, a small fishing village most characteristic of Cinque Terre and is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The medieval castle, Belforte, was built in the mid-1500's, primarily to protect the village from pirates. Explored a bit and return to Monterosso.
