These 4 videos, shot back to back, are basically throwaway ambient experiments/explorations. They aren't even good enough to warrant titles or to qualify as even semi-fleshed-out improvisations. But they do offer some insight and a "peek behind the curtain" at my process and experimentation with "catching a groove" or "setting a mood." These experiments, done with and without a looper track, give you an idea of some of the false takes that go one before I get something I can build on. They all have fairly obvious issues: poor effects mixtures, timing issues of the effects, timing issues against the loop, and failure to create a workable groove or to keep to a compelling theme, among others. Using delay, tremolo and reverb on this track...don't recall which pedals or settings. At the time these were recorded, I hadn't done any meaningful ambient pieces in about a year or so, maybe more. Obviously, the more consistently you loop, or groove over a wash of effects, the more accomplished you become at it. It does help to have some sort of idea that you want to start/run with, rather than just starting "cold" and hoping for the best (though occasionally even that works). These 4 videos give you an idea of some of the process that might go on BEFORE the camera rolls on an ambient improvisation. There is absolutely nothing remarkable, musically, in any of them. But they give you a background on my process and the "fishing around" that goes on before something takes off.
