트럼프 “이란 차기 지도자 선출 관여해야” 이란 반발 속 미 의회 전쟁권한 제한안 부결 We begin this morning with tensions in the Middle East. U.S. President Donald Trump says he should have a role in deciding Iran’s leadership, after the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has rejected the idea, and says it's ready to continue fighting, while Congress failed to limit the president’s war powers. Oh Soo-young reports. U.S. President Donald Trump says he should have a say in who leads Iran next. In an interview on Thursday, Trump said he “has to be involved” in the appointment of Iran’s next supreme leader, following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli strike. Trump dismissed Khamenei’s son as a candidate, deeming him a "lightweight" and "unacceptable," saying he wants "someone that will bring harmony and peace to Iran." Iran’s leadership transition is normally decided by the country’s Assembly of Experts, the clerical body responsible for selecting the supreme leader. Tehran has pushed back strongly. In an interview with NBC, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran has not requested a ceasefire despite days of U.S. and Israeli strikes. He said Tehran sees no reason to negotiate with Washington, which he accused of attacking Iran during previous diplomatic talks. The diplomat said Iran is "waiting" for U.S. ground troops to land, warning it would be a disaster. Araghchi also rejected Trump’s comments about Iran’s leadership succession saying the choice of the next supreme leader is "absolutely the business of Iranian people, and nobody can interfere." Amid the escalating rhetoric, a political battle continues in Washington. On Capitol Hill, the U.S. House of Representatives rejected an effort to curb Trump’s authority to wage war against Iran, voting 219 to 212 largely along party lines. The measure invoked the War Powers Resolution, which would have required congressional approval before continuing military operations. The vote came just a day after the Senate blocked a similar attempt. Democrats argue the president launched strikes without proper authorization and question whether Iran posed the kind of “imminent threat” required to justify unilateral military action. But Republicans say restricting the commander-in-chief in the middle of a war would undermine U.S. operations. Meanwhile, the fighting continues. On the sixth day of the conflict, Iran launched a new wave of missile and drone attacks against Israel and U.S. facilities across the Middle East. Iran also launched drones toward Azerbaijan, damaging a school building and injuring four civilians. Azerbaijan has strongly condemned the attack.
