Acute pancreatitis is an extremely painful condition associated with inflammation of the pancreas gland. This series of four videos provide a broad overview of the causes of pancreatitis, an investigation of the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and severe pancreatitis. A small minority of patients admitted with acute pancreatitis may develop severe pancreatitis. The recovery is prolonged and frequently requires admission to the intensive care unit. This is a potentially dangerous condition with a small risk of mortality.
