This is a 100% longplay of Pac-Man World, Namco's 1999 3D platformer released on the Playstation celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Pac-Man (which actually occurred in 2000, but close enough). Pac-Man World is a fine game with bright colors, memorable levels, and weirdly dark humor. Its sequel, Pac-Man World 2, is a simpler title in some ways but very solid. Pac-Man World is such a huge step up in quality from the last Pac-Man platformer, Pac-in-Time, which was not originally even a Pac-Man game, that I still wonder why Namco stopped the Pac-Man World series when it seemed to be moving in a promising direction. Pac-Man World 3, the worst installment, is still pretty good. Another video game apparently in the same engine as Pac-Man World, Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness (2000), is also excellent. The worst part of Pac-Man World is easily the Ruins boss, Anubis Rex. I considered editing out the many, many deaths I experienced in that level but decided against it. Why ruin the authenticity? The mazes are another weakness. They are simply not particularly exciting compared to the main quest or even the original arcade game, also included. In particular, the traps that appear in these maze levels are more nuisances than anything else. Pac-Man: Adventures in Time would implement that kind of maze gimmick more successfully in 2000.
