Haydn: Cello Concerto in D Major, Op. 101 Guilhermina Suggia with orchestra conducted by John Barbirolli Recorded July 12 and 13, 1928, in Studio C, Small Queen's Hall, London, on Gramophone Company 78-rpm matrices Cc13948 through Cc13951, Cc13959 and Cc13960. Issued January, 1929, as HMV D 1518 through 1520. The Haydn D Major Concerto is in three movements: 1. Allegro moderato (cadenza at 10:34) 2. Adagio (at 13:00; cadenza at 17:03) 3. Allegro (at 17:58; cadenza at 22:47) The original scoring of the Haydn D Major Concerto is for 2 oboes, 2 horns and strings, but in this recording a re-orchestration appears to be used, as flutes, clarinets and bassoons are also audible. There are also three cuts in the first movement: six bars (65 to 70) are omitted between the first and second sides, and on side two itself, 32 additional bars are cut - from bars 81 to 95 and from bars 136 to 152. Additionally, the solo cello line in bars 96 and 97 has been rescored for the orchestra, as the cut from bar 81 occurs in the middle of an orchestral tutti.
