Stop tripping over wood scraps. This DIY Cantilever Lumber Rack is cheaper than the metal store-bought systems, easier to customize, and incredibly strong. Using just standard 2x4s and EMT conduit (tubing), I built a heavy-duty wall storage system that clears up floor space instantly. In this build, I show you how to construct a 2x4 and conduit pipe and lumber rack specifically designed for a concrete block wall. This will also work for stud walls as well. The Design: This is a vertical cantilever system. The 2x4 uprights are anchored to the concrete wall, and the EMT conduit arms hold the weight. It’s perfect for storing long boards, pipe, molding, and even plywood on the top shelf. Materials Used: Standard 2x4 Studs (Pressure treated if on damp concrete) 3/4" EMT Conduit (Electrical Metallic Tubing) Tapcons / Concrete Anchors Headlok Anchors Tools Used Hammer Drill Drill Press Forstner Bits 3D Printer Ratchet & Sockets Drill Pipe Deburring Tool Metal Cutting Bandsaw 3D Printer (for alignment tool) This rack costs far less than a store-bought metal system and holds a surprising amount of weight. If you’re looking to clean up your shop and store lumber safely without spending a ton of money, this project will get you there.
