Yellow is the colour of my true loves hair. Donovan wrote some of the most memorable folk songs of the 1960’s. This is a favourite of mine. Donovan released this song in 1965. I first heard it on the jukebox box in a transport cafe in my home town in England where the local beats and greasers hung out. It was a rough place and it intrigued me that they loved this song. I bought this 1927 Martin 2 17 H all mahogany parlour guitar as played by legendary country music singer Jimmie Rogers over 30 years ago. It was a mess. Somebody had made it into an 8 string something or other with a floating bridge. I had it restored by Paul Duff ( famous for his mandolins) who made a new bridge for it and fixed cracks and refinished it. A few years ago the bridge started lifting and rotating towards the finger board lifting the action and throwing the intonation out. Recently I took it to master luthier and repairer Harry Baker who made and fitted a bridge doctor. The top is now flat, the intonation near perfect and it sounds better than ever. A great sound for such a small guitar 95 years old. It is fitted with Gypsy Jazz strings 11-41 gauge as it is a very lightly built guitar. It’s a wonderfull finger picking guitar. I recorded this with a Rode iXY mic into an I phone 11 pro. Another video of this Martin guitar.
