The BB 512 was first introduced in 1976, and brought back to life the name of the earlier Ferrari 512 racer. This particular BB 512 has only 8,000 miles and was restored by David Dimitrion. Powering the 512 BB was a 5.0 L Flat 12 cylinder (4942cc) with a compression ratio of 9.2:1. Horsepower was 360 for the carbureted version, and 340 for the injected BB 512i which was introoduced in 1981. A new dual plate clutch was introduced with the BB 512 to handle the added power and torque as well as enhance driveability with easier clutch effort. The BB 512 used dry sump lubrication to prevent oil starvation in hard cornering. In 1981, Ferrari incorportated Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel injection into the BB 512 and the BB 512i was created. The fuel injected 512 i was a better daily driver than the carbureted 512 and produced cleaner emissions. The BB 512 i is differentiated from the BB 512 with BB 512 i emblems as well as metric sized wheels and Michelin TRX metric tires. In addition, the BB 512 i included small white running lights on the front end and red rear fog lamps were installed in the rear valance outside of the exhaust outlets. Only 1,007 BB 512i models were produced. Top speed of the BB512 was an astonishing 188 mph which was quite a feat for the era in which the car was produced. Even by today's standards, a 188 mph top speed is impressive.
