Spun some laps on a new '21 CRF450R today at Briarcliff MX (thanks Blane!). The bike was stock with just a few hours of use. I owned a 2019 CRF450R Works Edition and currently ride a 2020.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition. I was very interested to ride the all new CRF450R. My impressions.... I did not notice any EFI mapping issues noted in the recent press rides (I rode Map 1 and Map 3). Power is KTM like (smooth) with more excitement. The hydraulic clutch pull effort is reduced compared to the previous CRF450R cable clutch. The engine ran smooth at lower rpm with that strong CRF mid range roll on torque feel. I noticed a little more engine vibration at higher RPM (still less than my KTM 450SXF). The single muffler was much quieter than the dual set up on the 20 CRF450R. This bike still feels like a CRF450R with a quick front end steering chassis with much improved ride comfort and less busy at speed compared to the 20 CRF450R. Feels light in motion. Suspension is plush overall and a little soft for fast guys but feels like a good setting for Vet riders. The Showa forks are not KYB plush but very good. The rear shock worked well though the shock spring feels a little soft compared to the forks spring rate. The new bodywork is narrow and and the seat/handlebar/footpeg layout felt typical Honda: perfect. The new styling and super bright red color looks even better in person. The new CRF450R still feels a lot like the last CRF only better. Smoother yet still strong power that is easier to ride, a more compliant and settled chassis that still has that quick handling CRF character, and that typical Honda "just feels right" layout all wrapped up in the brightest red color I've seen from Honda in a long time. Looking forward to riding more laps on a CRF450R soon!
