Ernest Broadbent Empress Wurlitzer BBC Radio Broadcast 1969. These recordings were specially recorded for the Lunch Time BBC Rado 2 show "Accent On Melody" These recordings were played on this show over a week in January 1969. The regular host of this Radio 2 show was Sam Costa. These recordings were taken of a mid1960s Philips Cassette tape which, like so many of these old tapes, was not in great shape! So this has taking me a long while to join some of the breaks and piece it back together as best as possible there is a little bit of microphone blasting in parts on the recording, and I have tried to take as much of the tape hiss off as well without deadening the sound too much! Ernest Broadbent was indeed a fine organist and pianist. He went on a year later to take over at the Tower Ballroom Wurlitzer from Reginald Dixon when he retired in Easter 1970. The Empress Wurlitzer organ was soon to be sold to the BBC and moved and installed in the Playhouse Theatre Manchester, Where it was opened in November. 1970.
