“Cool Million” debuted in October 1972 as the third element of “The NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie,” joining “Banacek” and “Madigan” in that rotation. A two-hour pilot film (usually broadcast now as “The Mask of Marcella”) was followed by four 90-minute episodes. The show starred James Farentino as Jefferson Keyes, “an enterprising former CIA agent who set himself up in business as a private eye willing to take any case or solve any problem for a flat fee of one million dollars (refunded if he fails) ...
