Today we answer why are my tomatoes not ripening with our tips for ripe tomato plants. We grow lots of tomatoes on the allotment garden and in our greenhouse at home. We want our tomatoes to ripen on the vine and grow lots of them. We have some top tips for growing ripe tomatos. We grow tomatoes and want them to ripen on the plant. To do this we remember that we are growing tomatoes not foliage or leaves. It is essential to know what type of tomato plant you are growing. We grow cordon tomatoes and train them up canes or string to grow tall slim vines. We simply remove all side shoots to train one growing stem from which the tomato trusses grow. Once we have enough fruit trusses or the plant is tall enough we remove the growing tip. By stopping the plant from growing taller it will try to send out even more side shoots which need to be removed. To get good size ripe tomatoes we then also remove the leaves from the plant. The main rule is to remove leaves below each completed truss. You will end up with a tall vine with just fruit on it by the end of the growing season which is perfect as we are growing tomatoes not leaves.
