JSO Officer Involved Shooting - 11.19.24

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred just before 11:00 pm Tuesday night. As a JSO Sergeant was working an off-duty job at a construction site near Main Street and I295, she was notified that the driver of a passing vehicle stopped his car, got out and stabbed one of the construction workers - all apparently unprovoked. The victim was able to summon help and Sgt. Ralaska Hoover began to pursue the fleeing suspect vehicle. Sgt. Torrie Robinson, being in the area, joined the pursuit that culminated when the suspect stopped his vehicle in the 400 block of Duval Station Road. As the officers approached the suspect, giving him verbal commands to get on the ground, the suspect engaged Sgt. Hoover with a knife. She attempted to utilize her issued 'Taser' but this was not effective, and the suspect began to charge at her at a quicker pace. At this point, as a result of the suspect's actions, Sgt. Robinson and Sgt Hoover fired multiple rounds at the suspect, striking the suspect several times before he went down. The suspect was secured, medical aid rendered by officers on scene, and transported to a local hospital to be treated further. At the time of this writing, the suspect was listed in critical condition. The suspect has been identified as Benjamin Kubi (Black/Male 39). This marks the 8th officer involved shooting this year by a member of JSO.
