The DigiTech DF7 Distortion Factory pedal is reviewed/demoed in this video. As the name suggests, it is a distortion pedal, but it is SOOOO much more than that. There are 7 distortion models to choose from! In order they are based on the Ibanez TS-9, DOD overdrive/preamp 250, Boss DS-1, Pro CO Rat, Boss MT-2 MetalZone, Digitech Metal Master, and EHX Big Muff PI. Controls on this one offer a huge array of tonal flexibility. Level controls your volume, Mid Freq and Gain control different things based on what model you are using, Distortion model lets you choose your modeled pedal, and on top of all of that there is an additional 3 band EQ. The pedal has one input and two outputs. The top output features amp modeling for direct input to a mixer or recording device. You can record music that would make your parents question their life choices without waking up the neighborhood. Overall, I’d say this is a VERY good low-price range distortion pedal (~$45 Used). The models sound good to my ear and the ability to shape your tone so much is fabulous. I can say that this isn’t quite as good when compared side by side to the real deal for the two models that I have the actual pedal, but is still impressively close. You might not even be able to tell the difference on youtube. It looks pretty cool too with the carbon fiber vibe going on. If you are gigging or recording, I would get the real deal. Otherwise you’ll likely be happy with this. Also, this is pretty noisy as would be expected with any high gain pedal. If you are going to have long cable runs or a lot of pedals a noise gate is highly recommended. I could also forsee the control knobs "sticking" to each other with the stacked knob format becoming problematic.
