Today we’re bringing you along for our first broccoli harvest of the season — and the heads are HUGE! 🌱🥦 We started the day harvesting some fresh eggplant and packing the mobile market trailer before heading into the broccoli patch. Normally, we don’t want our broccoli ready until mid-September because our coolers, box trucks, and sales tables are packed with other crops this time of year. But this year it came on 10 days early — and unlike cabbage, there’s no holding broccoli in the field once it’s ready. The heads were absolutely huge! We picked 18 tubs full, though we did miss the harvest window on a partial row that ripened ahead of schedule. In this video, I’ll show you: How we harvest broccoli and what we look for in a good head How long to cut the stems for market How we break off excess branches to make them market-ready Near the end, we also check on some cauliflower (still not ready) and take a quick look at my Pan American Seed Company tomato trials. The video wraps up with a short montage from the Worthington Farmers Market on Labor Day weekend. 👉 Full Worthington Farmers Market video from Labor Day weekend coming Friday — I’ll add the link here as soon as it’s live! Thanks for following along on the farm — your support means the world to us!
