Dez Mona is one of the most intriguing Belgian bands. The wide vocal range of singer Gregory Frateur and bass player Nicolas Rombouts determine the sound, which evokes the music of those such as Nina Simone, Marianne Faithfull, Tom Waits and Antony and the Johnsons. With BOX (Baroque Orchestration X), under the direction of Pieter Theuns, they extend their musical world to include a number of typical baroque instruments and their unique sound. Lighting artist Jan Pauwels and fashion designer Véronique Branquinho complete this entrancing and intimate universe. Why listen to them? Sága is the goddess of history who sings and relates tales of the world around her. Dez Mona tell stories about the soul and examine the love of a country, a home, the world we live in, with all its imperfections, and the search for light among these imperfections. Is there hope for improvement, or is this simply a utopian notion? With 'Sága', Dez Mona has created an opera as a reflection of our times, a poetic expression of our inner and outer worlds. Frateur and Rombouts have written a completely new repertoire consisting chiefly of ballads and narratives in what, for Dez Mona, is a characteristically dramatic and theatrical style. Together with BOX (Baroque Orchestration X), under the direction of Pieter Theuns, they extend their musical world to include a number of typical baroque instruments and their unique sound: a cross-fertilization of musical languages and emotions. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
