Left vs Right Heart Failure | Heart Failure (Part 3)

For our 3rd lesson, we take a look at the differences between left and right sided heart failure. We had previously looked at the differences between systolic and diastolic, which, while physiologically quite different, manifest themselves in the same end result of decreased cardiac output. But when we look at left vs right heart failure, they end up looking quite a bit different from each other. We start off in talking about left heart failure and what that looks like in our body. We also do a quick review of some of the causes of this condition. We diverge for a minute to also talk about acute vs chronic heart failure, before finishing back up talking about the signs and symptoms that you would expect to see, as well as whether these are related to decreased forward flow, or a result of the backup of blood. From there, we move on to talk about right heart failure, again talking about what that looks like in the body. Then we talk about the causes of this condition making sure and pointing out some of the right heart isolated causes of heart failure. Finally we finish up again talking about these specific signs and symptoms that will be seen with right heart failure. We conclude the lesson drawing a comparison between the left and right heart failure signs/symptoms to help to drive home the point of how these manifest in different ways.
