Dallas wraps up the prior session with more helpful insights into spiritual disciplines, diving into prayer, secrecy, chastity and fasting. He presents the Golden Triangle of Spiritual Growth showing that it’s always a partnership between us and the Holy Spirit, in the ordinary activities of daily life. He concludes with a gentle reminder that the purpose of brokenness is to get put back together, and then launches into the importance of being disciples, not just Christians. With wisdom he explains how disciplines won’t accomplish much if they’re presented to people who haven’t become disciples. But who is the disciple? One who trusts Jesus Christ for everything, and who is with Him, learning from Him, how to lead their life in the Kingdom of God as He would lead their life if He were they. Dallas then goes into depth on the three main points of the Great Commission, how spiritual formation works, and three aspects of discipleship. He circles back to a few more disciplines including sleep and Scripture memorization, before concluding by explaining how growth in discipleship all depends on VIM: a compelling vision of life in God’s Kingdom now, that fuels the intention and means to embrace it as reality.
