14 hours of travelling and I finally made it to Bontoc, the final destination before arriving in Buscalan. Missing the last bus by only 5 minutes, I was forced to travel with local rice farmers who offered to help me with advice. Worried that I would be stranded in a nearby village, I was rescued by the second side character of the channel: Rudi. He took me in the back of a truck and I finally made it to the sacred tattoo village of Buscalan, home of the master tattoo artist Apo Whang-Od… 108 years old. I received my first traditional hand-tapped tattoo by the nieces of Apo Whang-Od and tried the most popular gin in the Philippines.
