5th Place Honey Harvest 2022

In spring of 2020 (September for us in South Africa) we set up two empty hives. This video documents our first honey harvest, some 16 months later. A little background on our journey. The first hive welcomed a colony almost immediately. The second hive a little longer, at the end of Spring 2020. Unfortunately due to the unprecedented amount of Summer rainfall we've had this year and at the end of last year (2021 / 2022), we lost a colony - they moved out and on. Not enough flowers were able to bloom due to the wet weather to sustain them. This colony, the second one, was then infested with wax moth and has had to be cleaned up. We managed to harvest just over 7kg (about 16 lbs) of honey.
