Kalimantan, the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo, is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. Its rainforests are the oldest in the world and store tremendous amounts of carbon, playing a key role in mitigating climate change. Kalimantan's forests, however, are poorly protected and threatened by fragmentation and clear-cutting for palm oil plantations, other agriculture farms, and mining operations.
