Deacy shootout 2003 Mk II vs Kat 10th Sept 2015. I did a brief comparison of my 2003 Mk II Deacy Amp replica with Nigel Knight's KAT Deacy Amp replica. The action camera used was a cheap GoPro copy and therefore gave only average quality picture and sound. In the video I used my Nuno Bettencourt Washburn guitar and played sections of Queen's 'Somebody To Love'. The Mk II amp head was made for me in late 1999 by Colin Bloxsom using my 1998 Allerton Hill drawings and I did several modifications to the amp head to improve its sound between 2000 and 2003. Its cabinet is the original Allerton Hill Deacy replica cabinet that I made in Brian May's studio in 1998. At that time Marshall rep Andy Milner very kindly asked the Marshall guys to do the grillecloth in Marshall black with gold piping. The amp originally had the David Petersen 1998 Deacy 'Mk I' head inside the cabinet. The Mk II head gave a much closer sound than the Mk I to Brian May's original legendary Deacy Amp. The KAT Deacy Amp replica was one of the first few replica amps that Nigel Knight produced in his limited run of bespoke amplifers. In my opinion, both amps sound very good although are quite different sounding to each other, the Mk II having more richness and fullness and the KAT having more treble detail.
