Functional stenosis is a unique complication of sleeve gastrectomy. It results from either a "twist" or "kink" just around the "incisura angularis" without an organic stricture allowing easy passage of the gastroscope. If chronic, the most widely applied therapy is dilatation by the "single use" achalasia balloon, namely; Rigiflex ( Boston Scientifics ). Repeat dilatations with wider balloons will occasionally be required. Very few patients may need surgery if repeat dilatations and stent applications uniformly fail. RYGB is the procedure of choice once surgery becomes inevitable.
