Kalemegdan Park (Fortress) in Belgrade, by Night Host: EXPO 2027 Belgrade Serbia Specialized Expo: "Play for Humanity" Night over Belgrade: Atop Kalemegdan Fortress Amazing park for all ages, within the fortress walls, and there is something for everyone. Perfect place to enjoy the sunsets. Views of the Sava and Danube rivers (and their confluence) are amazing. Fortress walls overlooking the river give great photo opportunities. Strongly recommend for nice walks with immersion into thrilling history. The fortress boasts very well preserved walls and the moat (used nowadays as a part of the Military Museum, exhibiting weaponry from various times). Make sure to visit all of the fortress Gates and the churches. Has something for everyone: museums, sculptures, monuments, fortress walls, dinosaurs playground, towers, churches, gates, Roman Well, playgrounds, cafes, walking paths, tennis courts and ofcourse great views. Victor Monument The Victor, ("Pobednik"), a recognizable symbol of Belgrade, erected in 1928, is the work of the famous Yugoslav sculptor Ivan Meštrović. It was originally set up on Terazije Square, but the ladies of Belgrade protested against the statue of a nude male figure, holding a sword in one hand, and a pigeon in the other. After that it was placed on the 11-meter high pillar, facing the cliff above the Sava and Danube confluence. Military Museum: founded in 1878, from 1959 in this building. Has over 3000 ancient and modern items incl. Roman swords, Greek helmets, Serbian armour, tanks (outdoor exhibition) and many artillery artifacts within the walls. www.muzej.mod.gov.rs ********** There are 11 Gates in the Kalemegdan park Shown in the video: The Zindan Gate was built in the middle of the 15th century for better protection of the East Gate, which at the time was the main entrance to the city. The gate is actually a small pre-fortification — a barbican consisting of two massive semicircular towers, between which there is a passage. The area towards the corner tower of the Upper Town was closed by an arched rampart, about 11 metres high. There used to be a moat in front of the gate, over which a wooden drawbridge stretched. It was from these positions that Belgrade successfully resisted the Turkish siege in 1456.
