Ice Fishing First Ice at Strawberry Reservoir 2024
We head to the Berry otherwise known as Strawberry Reservoir State Park in Utah. We have all been itching in the Salt Lake valley to get up here and hit the ice. There isn't much, but there is enough for us! We head to Mud Creek for a small sheet of ice right next to wavy open waters. There was 4-5 inches of solid clear ice which was safe enough conditions for about 2 dozen groups to head out. You could cast from the edge of the ice right out into open waters. There were some sketchy patches so be careful and bring a spud bar, the roads are also covered in some pretty decent snow, so drive carefully. We caught some nice 20 inch cutthroat trout using a green and red speckled tube jig, tipped with a half a nightcrawler. See you out on the ice!
