The suburban city of Grosse Pointe Park, MI has repeatedly errected barriers to block access to their city from the citizens of their closest neighbor Detroit, MI. The barriers started as a Christmas Tree display in February, 2014 and by June the intersection was changed into a one way roundabout and blocked by a group of sheds and cement barriers that some are calling a farmers market. The farmers market directly blocks Detroit traffic from entering the predominately white area. In some places of Grosse Pointe the concentration of the white population is as high as 95%. The blocking of the historic east-west route (at Kercheval Ave and Alter Rd) marked the fourth time the city of Grosse Pointe has blocked Detroit traffic from entering the area. No one has accepted responsibility for setting up the cement barriers, shed blockade, or the no-go zone for Detroit, a city that has with a majority black population.
