Each day there is something to be grateful for here on the Salish Sea...blessed to live, love and grow on the unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. I definitely know this Hawklet is grateful for the past 7 days, surviving and thriving in this Eagle's nest here on Gabriola Island. Unbelievable each day to watch the comings and goings on of this now 1/4 Hawk, Eagle family. Incredible. This footage is captured from the GROWLS web cam from June 14-21, 2022...days 10-17 of the captured Hawklet that became family in the Eagle's nest we monitor. Monitored by web cam since September 2021! During this time we were visited by David Hancock and Christian Sasse of the Hancock Wildlife Foundation. Much was learned by all of us while witnessing the nest firsthand that day. Good times. :) This video has been edited to the best ofmy ability to continue to showcase the daily activities in the nest. Each day the two young raptors grow, change and become more of the magnificent being they are created to be. It's fascinating watching them really start to spread their wings and yearn to fly. They are so sweet and so smart. Especially the Hawklet, which we end up naming on day 12! (you have to watch to find out) Hawklet will soon fledge then Junior will soon follow in the weeks following. Such different sizes between the birds, but we are finding out that bigger does not mean much. These are very different birds as similar as they may be. I loooooooooove to watch. I am still a voyeur. ha ha ha! ;)
