There are two primary ways someone can be deported, Hannah Flamm, interim senior director of policy at the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), told VOA in an interview. One is the standard process. “When you enter the United States, or at some point after you are living in the United States, you are issued a charging document which begins a proceeding against you. … [During this process] you can apply for asylum or otherwise defend your right to be in the United States. … If you don't win at the end of that process, then you are issued a deportation order,” Flamm said.
