1st Time Riding in a Robot Taxi!! Would you ride in an autonomous vehicle? This time last year when visiting family in Los Angeles I saw these driverless taxis from the company Waymo driving around the streets of LA. I can’t tell you how strange it was the first time I saw a car pull up next to me with nobody inside it. At that time they were only doing testing and it wasn’t open to the public yet (in LA) This year while visiting, it was. So I decided to try my luck and take a ride in an autonomous vehicle 🚗 No human driver, just a car with a lot of cameras on top and a huge supercomputer somewhere in a warehouse making the decision on whether or not it’s safe to merge into traffic. According to the statistics, these AI taxis are 12 times safer to ride in than a regular cab. That may be, but it’s still weird. I does feel like something out of science fiction, Star Wars, Blade Runner, I Robot… That being said, I see this tech getting rolled out to more places and being incredibly disruptive. Make no mistake, AI is coming for our jobs, and the billionaire tech CEOs dangling universal basic income for all humans are full of 💩 This tech, while fascinating, will make a select few incredibly wealthy, and cause mass unemployment in its wake. And yet, it feels like we are all on this train, with no choice given whether we want it or not. Regardless, it is fascinating that we’re living in these wild times where science fiction of the past is literally being rolled out as we speak. What do you think about it?
