Ashfaq Akbar is a Dubai-based businessman. He was born Kerala, the most literate state in India, on November 15, 1985. I had also interviewed him in July. In that interview I misstated that he was born in Dubai. He moved to the Middle East as an infant. Asaduddin Owaisi has not done anything for his constituents. Once he described Mohammad Shahabuddin, a convicted gangster, a bahubhali (strongman) in the Siwan district of Bihar, and a close aide to Lalu Prasad Yadav, the president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the lion of Siwan (Sher-i-Siwan). Shahabuddin remained a member of the Indian Parliament between 1996 and 2004 from the Siwan constituency. He was also elected for two successive terms to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1990 and 1995 from the Ziradei constituency. He was a former member of the National Executive Committee of the Janata Dal and the Rashtriya Janata Dal. He was disqualified from contesting elections following his conviction for the kidnapping and disappearance of Chote Lal Gupta, an activist of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation for which he was serving a life sentence. He was also accused of killing 15 other Communist Party activists, including the former student leader Chandrashekhar Prasad. According to Ashfaq Akbar, he got two Muslims killed by throwing them into acid for refusing to pay him bhatta (protection money). He rates Dr. BR Abedkar, the Dalit architect of Indian constitution, higher than Jinnah. He does not agree with those Pakistanis who argue that Jinnah was right about seeking partition. In his view, the decision to seek partition has not been proven right. As a consequence of partition, the Muslim community has been divided into three parts. The elite of Indian Muslims moved to Pakistan. We lost our political and socio-economic clout. He believes that the Indian Muslims are far better off than Pakistani Muslims. Pakistan should not worry about us. Kashmir's future is the best with India. Indian and Pakistani industrialists should invest in each other's countries.
