Wings Girls Music Band Founded in 2023, as an initiative of Wings Education and Media, the Wings Music Band is primarily composed of young girls dedicated to driving social transformation on issues relevant to girls. Through their music, they aim to engage both girls and boys in meaningful conversations about social issues affecting young girls. The Band has produced four original songs: “Gelawa/ገላዋ,” “Bilatenaye/ብላቴናዬ,” “Yemisrach/የምስራች,” and “Hilm Alen Egna/ህልም አለን እኛ.” These songs address critical topics such as child marriage, Female Genital Mutilation ( FGM), gender equality, girls’ education and empowerment, justice, and other related matters. Through their creative expression, the Band members strive to address essential social issues impacting girls and inspire change. The Music Band has showcased its music at various national events, including the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, 2024 International Children’s Day, the launch of the 16 Days of Activism organized by Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, and the EdTech Summit organized by Girls Growing Education (GGE). Its mission is to empower girls and inspire social behavioral change regarding these vital issues among the public, government, and organizations. The Band believes that music is a powerful tool for promoting social change and is actively working to expand its fan base, particularly among young people. Additionally, the Band members utilize their platform to advocate for girls’ rights, gender equality, and societal shifts that can enhance the lives of girls and women.
