Culto is a coffee shop situated in Montevideo's Old City, on the iconic Sarandí pedestrian street. The building's history dates back to the early 20th century, a time of prosperity in the "Switzerland of America." The project aimed to revive the forgotten corner and embrace two key concepts: "elegant ruins" and the "crypt," symbolizing the coffee cult. The design preserved the ruinous walls, showcasing their historical marks, and the original mosaic floor, while introducing new elements like green accents and a contemporary yellow zinc finish. The contrast between the old and new elements creates a captivating atmosphere. Culto draws inspiration from the Crypt of the Lord of Patience, enhancing the "cult of coffee" notion. Furniture custom-designed for the café complements the experience, allowing customers to interact with the rich historical context and become active participants in the coffee culture.
