Watch the twelfth class from artist Elizabeth Whelan’s ‘Summer of Drawing’ series, as she discusses how to prepare Rublev's traditional silverpoint ground, and the class then turns to Florence in the 1500's where silverpoint and other drawing media were used by artists such as Michelangelo to create designs for goldsmiths. She takes a quick look at the work of Benvenuto Cellini and reads from his autobiography while you draw from his sculpture of Perseus with the head of Medusa. (Note that this class does not talk about the technique itself -- please watch part 1 for examples of how silverpoint hatching is done, then in this class, draw in silverpoint or any medium to practice all you have learned so far.) To download the pdf of the main images from this class, please visit the Art Classes page at www.elizabethwhelan.com. (This video is a segment of a live art class in the Summer of Drawing series, co-hosted by the Vineyard Haven Public Library.) ~~~ See Elizabeth R.
