Today we’re going to talk about Papal Wars: Violence at the Vatican, which is a fantasy board game that seeks to answer the age old question, ‘Which pope would win in a Battle Royale?’ So we were talking about random things at work and then we started arguing about whether Pope francis or Pope Benedict would win in a fight, so we started asking ourselves which pope out of all the previous popes would win, so the idea of creating a game where popes battle each other was born. The game is played by two to four people, turn based. Each player starts with five popes, whose abilities and stats have been determined based loosely on their life’s achievements and actions, with a heavy dose of whatever we found funny at the time. Each player also starts with ten swiss guards, who act as troops at the command of the popes. Basically the goal of the game is to eliminate all enemy popes, the conflict will focus on the center of the board in a ‘king of the hill’ style; Because when a player ends their turn with a pope in the center, they get to draw a card from the deck, these cards can seriously impact the balance of power. The game board (Shown here) is an aerial map of saint peter’s square in the vatican city. We have been working on the game for about 4 months now but we’re also working full time jobs and we need to hire professional artists and graphic designers, if we want to speed up the process.
