Hello my friends! After a long winter break, we’re back in the letterpress studio to reprint some of my most popular greeting cards. Because it's a simple, 1-color design, I thought it would go quickly (spoiler: it did not). It's a universal truth that the jobs which seem the easiest unexpectedly take the longest! I ran into issues with the position of the polymer plates and had to adjust those a few times to ensure they were centered. Set up is often the most time-consuming part, and that's letterpress is meant for editions instead of one-off designs. And the time required to get everything right is one of the reasons why letterpress printing costs so much. But I'd rather struggle with this beautiful machine over my inkjet printer any day, the results are always worth it! Here's how long it took to letterpress print 100 cards set up: 57 minutes printing: 32 minutes clean up: 20 minutes Let's see how long these cards last in the shop! (Apologies for the occasional dog barking and neighbors blowing leaves in the background... promise there are plenty of press sounds and bird calls to make up for it!) xo, Mary letterpress, print with me, asmr
