In this video we will show you an ancient Mirpur city drowned inside “ Mangla Dam”. In winter when the level of water is very low than the buildings of old city come out in the shape of ruins in which Mosques, Temples, Shrines, Ponds of water, Chilla Gah, Old Bridge, Graveyard, Baoli, Wells, Stepwells and others are renowned. The construction of Mangla Dam was started in 1960 and completed in a period of 4 years. Today 61 years have become drowned of this city. The area of this Dam is 100 square kilometer. Mangla Dam was upgraded in 2004. Mangla Dam deserted this city but the signs of Mosques, Temples and Shrines are present today. There was a big and main market here where the people bought all the items of life. 450 years old Shrine of Hazrat Mian Mir Badshah Gazi is also present in Mirpur the name of this city relates to his name. Ever 4 big wells were present here. A well is related to Alhaaj Noor Muhammad in the record of Archeological Department. A big Stepwell called “Baoli” is also present here which was constructed in Dogra Raj of Kashmir. Ever the bunches of trees were located in large numbers in Mirpur city which showed the beauty of this city. A Temple of Raghunath was also situated here along with a Hindu University. These all buildings were very old and historical but now the symbols of these buildings remains. A bridge named “Rathoa Haryam” is also been constructing here since 16 years at a cost of 4 billion which will connect Mirpur to Islam Garh. Before partition Hindus and Muslims lived together with peace in Mirpur city. Hindus had 70% of wells while the Muslims were the owner of only 30% wells. In 1947 the Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India and only Muslims remain here. In 1960 the Muslims also migrated from here after start the construction of Mangla Dam. After the partition of 1947, 50000 people of this city migrated and settled in nearby areas. Now the whole old Mirpur city drown 9 months in water while in 3 months this look outside from water. This city is situated in Azad Jammu And Kashmir. You can come and visit here easily but only from January to April. If you want to visit these historical places than you should contact with the local guide of Azad Jammu And Kashmir, Raja Saghir Bhatti. He is very kind and polite person. He is very cooperative and has the ability to entertain you in tourism. He charge very low cost for his services. You can contact him on Whats App Number before going to these places.
