Here is a short video that shows one how to create a natural Grasshopper fly abdomen using deer hair or one could use elk, moose, or any similar hair. I generally do not tie Grasshoppers larger than size 6 hooks, so the deer hair from Natures Spirit works perfect. Using the extended body tool, it creates the natural curved taper, which would help the hopper to ride perfect. The thread creates the Spiracles and you can use your best judgement for spacing and whether to cross or to not. I really have found the Superglue applied lightly to the top and rear wraps critical to help increase durability of the abdomen.
