When U.S. Soldiers Saw Dachau for the First Time – Horror of Liberation On April 29, 1945, U.S. soldiers entered Dachau expecting routine surrender. Instead, they found thirty-nine rail wagons filled with decomposing corpses. Just meters away, the crematorium ovens still glowed. Inside, 32,000 prisoners—skeletal and silent—waited for rescue. SS guards lingered in watchtowers, some surrendering, others defiant. Chaos blurred the line between captors and captives. In that moment, the Americans faced impossible questions: Were the guards still enemies—or prisoners of war? Who gave the order to fire? And why were these actions never prosecuted as war crimes? This video is for educational and historical purposes only. We condemn all forms of hate, violence, and discrimination. Our goal is to examine the past so it is never repeated. Never again. This video is of our “Fall of the Third Reich” series – exploring the forgotten fate of 91,000 German prisoners. Watch the full series here: • The Fall of the Third Reich
