Although it has been 20 years since the Honda NSX was introduced and more than several years since it was discontinued, the NSX GT race car consistently competed in the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) and the Super GT (renamed from the JGTC in 2005) until 2008. In 2003, JGTC regulations allowed Honda to mount the car's V6 longitudinally in the engine bay, with the transmission in front and differential towards the rear to improve weight distribution. However, this wasn't enough to keep pace with the faster Nissans and Toyotas. Honda then decided to add twin turbochargers to the engine, but this also proved unsuccessful. In 2005, Honda opted to start from scratch, so it produced the very limited NSX Type R GT, to meet homologation requirements. Armed with a new foundation (one with dramatically better aerodynamics and a 3494 cc C32B 24-valve DOHC V6 that pumped out 493 HP), Honda set forth on making the NSX competitive again—and did it ever! The Raybrig NSX team run by Team Kunimitsu in 2006 competed with drivers Sebastien Philippe and Shinya Hosokawa. The duo contended for the series championship until the end, winning the Round 7 race held at Twin Ring Motegi, but ended up missing out on the title by just a single, heartbreaking point-settling for 2nd place in the championship that year. ‪@arz_arz_114‬
