Restoration of a Nushiya Kogatana 塗師屋小刀

Restoration of a well used nushiya kogatana (塗師屋小刀). This restoration is done in our workshop and all the work on this restoration was done manually, except for the first step of urasuki pocket restoration, which was done with a machine. Nushiya kogatana is typically used in Japan by urushi laquer craftsmen for their work prep. Very impressive blade and the way it's used is a statement to precision and sharpness. The original state of this nushiya wasn't too bad, but urasuki pocket was almost gone (specially at the top part of the blade). The blade's geometry was also seriously altered. Made new urasuki, almost from scratch, did corrections on geometry distortion, sharpened and polished the bevel. Urasuki was mirror polished.
