THIS IS AN UPDATE TO SYNC DAW TO PORTASTUDIO (TURN A 4 TRACK PORTASTUDIO INTO A "24 TRACK" OR INFINITE TRACK): If you don't have access to a MIDI SMPTE/LTC Generator/Decoder, but have an interface and a few cables, you can use FREE software that does the same exact thing. This will save you money and headaches finding drivers or support for older devices. FAQ: Q: Can I sync 2 Portastudios this way? A: No. PortaStudios can't read MTC/SMPTE signals, it can only record and play it back. Q: Can I make my DAW the Master and the PortaStudio the Slave device? A: No. Again, PortaStudios can't read MTC. Q: What is the point of this if it goes against traditional bouncing and committed mixing? A: Imagine a 24 track PortaStudio. Wouldn't that be amazing? Bouncing multiple times degrades quality by a lot. Being able to keep the initial quality of your recording will allow for better mixing as well. Also, no more worries about stereo! Q: Can I use a JLC PPS-2, MOTU Timepiece, Tascam MTS30, etc? A: Yes, this is possible. More MIDI I/O only devices, you would probably use a MIDI to USB cable. MOTU Timepieces on the other hand are risky as most on reverb and eBay use very outdated ports. Try this at your own risk. Q: Do I need to turn on the sync switch on my device? A: The sync switch automatically turns on DBX which I do not like so I leave it off. If you enjoy DBX, you can switch it to sync. ' Q: Will this work on MiniStudios? A: No. There are no direct outs on these models. Q: Can I control the DAWs tempo using the pitch wheel? A: No. This will mess up the synchronization between the PortaStudio and DAW.
