Online workshop focused on seaweed standards and food safety in the SE Pacific region led by Blue[C]weed, a project awarded in 2022 by the GSC. Over the past years, the team has worked hard to identify key seaweed species suitable for cultivation in the SE Pacific islands and conducted analysis of seaweed contaminants in the region. The findings from this project are expected to inform upcoming discussions regarding the inclusion of seaweed in the #CodexAlimentarius. The objective of this workshop is to gather key stakeholders to discuss current seaweed cultivation, existing regulations, and explore collaboration opportunities for the SE Pacific region. The first part of the workshop will be dedicated to gather the work carried out on seaweed contaminants across the region (mainly Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji, Kiribati, Wallis & Futuna, and French Polynesia). Participants will then be invited to brainstorm on actions for developing a safe seaweed industry in the SE Pacific region.
