This time I am joined by two old school friends, Josh and Turlough, from the Isle of Wight, and we're out exploring near Buxton, in Derbyshire. The Cowdale Lime Works opened in 1898 and within a decade had become part of the Buxton Lime Firms. A group of quarry owners and lime works owners. Once the Buxton Lime Firms took over in 1908, they extended the site, building a large number of structures in a very rare 'Neo-Egyptian' style. The adjoining quarry closed in 1948, but the enormous kilns remained in action until 1955. At that point, the site was closed down, and has been left abandoned ever since.
