Virgl Abloh Dedicated His GQ Award To The People On His Table

Virgil Abloh has been announced as the International Designer of the Year at GQ Men of the Year awards, in association with Patron Australia. Kanye West's longtime Creative Director is the embodiment of professional cool. The DJ, creator and founder of streetwear label Off-White has spent the past five or so years developing, perfecting and mainstreaming casual clothes in uncasual situations. He has turned his own lifestyle - 350 plane rides a year, a major fashion line, DJ-ing, and of course his work with Kanye West - into something bigger, more aspirational. Abloh's Off-White reflects the collapsing distinctions between designer and consumer, fashion and streetwear. He has taken advantage of a strange time in fashion whereby interest in men's clothing has never been higher, yet the bar for entry in terms of making and designing has never been lower. As Off-White has continued to rise within the fashion industry collaborating wth Nike and Louis Vuitton alike, Abloh has become somewhat of a pioneer. Last year, the label was the only American finalist for the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers but that hasn't stopped Abloh on setting his sights on greater things.
