Olivia and I are back trying out another demo, and this one might be one of the cutest and silliest co-op games we’ve played in a while. 🐸 In Frog Sqwad, you play as a team of hungry frogs running around a colorful world gobbling up as much food as possible and bringing it back to your boat. The goal is simple: eat everything you can find, hop back to the boat, and then… well… throw it all up into the boat so it can be delivered to the giant toad king waiting in the main hub area. That giant toad is the Swamp King — a massive five-eyed toad wearing a crown who rules over the swamp and expects constant deliveries of food from your squad. Everything you collect gets taken back and offered up to him, making him the ultimate boss of the whole operation. The gameplay is super easy to understand but leads to a lot of ridiculous moments, especially when you’re playing with friends. As you eat more and more food your frog gets bigger and bigger until eventually you turn into a giant round frog ball. Once that happens you can roll around smashing through walls, breaking open crates, and causing absolute chaos around the level. Watching each other accidentally roll through half the map or crash into objects had us laughing the whole time. But if you take damage you turn into a tadpole and if every person is a tadpole the game ends and you lose a life. Of course, playing with Olivia means the chaos level gets turned up immediately. Instead of being efficient frogs, we spent a lot of time bouncing on enemy heads, trying to steal food from each other before it could be delivered, and roasting each other whenever one of us rolled around like an out-of-control frog bowling ball. At one point we also managed to completely break the demo. Instead of taking the boat like the game clearly intended, we decided to see how far we could just swim across the water. That experiment led us into what was definitely a very unfinished and broken part of the map where things started falling apart. Eventually the game decided we had gone far enough and we both just fell straight to our deaths, which instantly respawned us back where we were supposed to be. Totally worth it for science. Even in this demo version you can tell the game is designed to be a goofy co-op experience. Running around the map collecting food, competing with your teammates, and accidentally sabotaging each other makes for some really funny moments. I can easily see this being even more chaotic with a full group of friends rolling around together. If you enjoy silly multiplayer games where the goal is technically teamwork but everyone ends up causing problems for each other, this one is definitely worth checking out. The art style is adorable, the gameplay is simple to pick up, and rolling around as a giant overstuffed frog destroying things never stops being funny.
