World depth record (1975) at the Gouffre de la Pierre St Martin and visiting Sardinia

A new world depth record was achieved in 1975 in a most unusual way! The PSM was already the deepest known cave in the world but a group of cavers from the United States in partnership with a member of the Craven Pothole Club and two cavers from Bristol Exploration Club were able to find a previously overlooked top entrance! Immediately afterwards three CPC members joined a caving holiday organised by Loughborough University Speleological Team (LUST) on on the Isle of Sardinia. In between these expeditions, there was a caving tragedy in the Picos de Europa. This illustrated talk is just under 45 minutes, followed by Q&A. It was presented Friday 2nd of October 2020, as part of the CPC's Lockdown Series.
